The Chapel
Dedicated in 1956, the Chapel at Fairmount Presbyterian Church was a cutting edge structure for Protestant Churches at the time. Its forward-looking design pioneered the modern use of two traditional church art forms: stained glass and sculpture.
The cost was $464,000, almost double that of the original parish house. Every penny of the Chapel's cost was paid for by Fairmounters, not a cent was borrowed.
Beneath the Chapel over a dozen new church school classrooms were added, which now see use for Sunday School, the Fairmount Co-op Nursery School and the Handbell Choir practice rooms.
